Visiting Sharm el-Sheikh in June
# Sharm el-Sheikh in June: What You’re Actually Getting Into
Let’s be straight with you: June in Sharm el-Sheikh is hot. Not “oh how lovely and warm” hot. We’re talking 38-40°C regularly, with the sun feeling genuinely aggressive by mid-morning. Rainfall is essentially nonexistent – this is the Sinai Desert, and June delivers the bone-dry conditions you’d expect. The heat does drop slightly after sunset, which is when the town genuinely comes alive, but don’t expect cool evenings.
The Red Sea itself is the saving grace here. Water temperatures sit around 26-27°C, which is warm enough to be completely comfortable for snorkelling and diving for hours without getting chilled. Visibility underwater is typically excellent in June. If the sea is your entire reason for being there, it actually delivers well this month.
Crowds are noticeably lighter than peak winter season (December through February) when Europeans flood in escaping the cold. June sits in a shoulder-to-quieter period for Western tourists, though you’ll still see plenty of visitors from neighbouring Arab countries. This means better hotel rates, more availability, and staff who have actual time for you. The main resort areas – Naama Bay, Sharks Bay – are all fully operational. Every restaurant, dive centre, and water park is open and running normally.
Is it worth going? Honestly, it depends entirely on who you are. If you’re a diver or serious snorkeller who runs hot and doesn’t mind spending the middle of the day horizontal by a pool or in an air-conditioned room, June works fine and saves you money. If you’re someone who wants to wander, sightsee, and be active outdoors during daylight hours, you’ll be genuinely miserable between about 11am and 5pm.
Families with young children should think carefully – keeping kids cool mid-day becomes a real task.
**Practical tip:** Book a room with a private balcony or guaranteed pool access and completely restructure your day. Early morning activity, lunch hiding indoors, back out at 5pm. Fighting the heat instead of working around it ruins the trip.
