Visiting Side in July
# Visiting Side in July
Let me be straight with you: July in Side is **hot**. We’re talking consistently 35°C plus, often nudging 38°C by afternoon, with humidity rolling in off the Mediterranean to make sure you really feel every degree. There’s almost no rainfall to speak of — you might see one brief shower the entire month if you’re unlucky enough to call it that. The sun is relentless from about 8am until well past 7pm. If you struggle in heat, genuinely reconsider your timing.
That said, the sea is absolutely perfect. Warm, clear, and calm, it’s the kind of water you slide into and immediately understand why people keep coming back. The ancient ruins — the Temple of Apollo, the Roman theatre, the old town walls — are genuinely spectacular, but visiting them at midday in July borders on self-punishment. Early morning only, before 9am ideally.
**Crowds are significant.** Side in July is busy in a way that transforms the old town’s narrow streets into slow-moving rivers of tourists. Restaurants are all open, boat trips run constantly, and the beach stretches are packed with sun loungers edge to edge. Everything is operating at full capacity, which also means prices reflect that. Don’t expect bargains or quiet corners on the main strip.
Is it worth it? For families with school-age children who have no choice about timing — absolutely yes. The infrastructure is solid, kids will love the water, and the combination of ruins plus beach genuinely delivers. For couples or solo travellers with flexibility, late May or early October offers the same beauty at about sixty percent of the intensity and cost.
**One practical tip:** book a boat trip that leaves at 9am rather than the popular midday departure. You’ll cover the same bays, but you’ll be swimming in them while the afternoon crowds are still fighting for sun lounger space on the main beach. You’ll also be back and horizontal under a fan before the worst heat arrives.
Side is a good destination. July is its most demanding version.
