# Sitges in May: Pretty Much the Sweet Spot
Look, if someone asked me when to visit Sitges and they weren’t specifically chasing carnival or Pride, I’d probably just say May and leave it at that.
The weather sits around 21°C, which sounds modest until you’re actually there and realise it’s absolutely perfect. You’re not melting into the pavement like you would in August, and you’re not wrapping yourself in a jacket wondering why you bothered flying somewhere warm. There’s genuine warmth to the air, the sea is starting to tempt people in (though honest warning: the water is still pretty cold, somewhere in the 18-19°C range, so committed swimmers only), and you can eat outside in the evening without it becoming an ordeal.
Rain does show up — nearly 43mm across the month, typically in short, dramatic bursts rather than grey drizzle that ruins entire days. You might lose an afternoon. Pack a layer and a small umbrella and you’ll be fine.
The crowd situation is genuinely comfortable. The summer hordes haven’t descended yet, which means you can actually get a table at Fragata without planning your day around it, and you can walk along the seafront promenade without shuffling. Restaurants, bars, and most shops are fully open. The beach bars are trading. The old town is pleasant to wander without feeling like you’re queuing to experience it. This is not a ghost town situation — there are definitely tourists — but it feels like the place belongs to actual people still.
It suits couples, solo travellers who want a relaxed coastal base for day trips to Barcelona, and anyone who finds peak summer too exhausting or expensive. Families with young kids would also do well here in May.
One practical tip worth knowing: accommodation prices jump noticeably on weekends because Barcelona weekenders pile in. If your dates are flexible, a Tuesday to Friday stay will cost you noticeably less and feel quieter in the best possible way.
May doesn’t have the drama of its famous festivals, but honestly, that’s half the appeal.
