# Tetouan in November: The Honest Take

Nobody really talks about Tetouan on the tourist circuit, which is partly why November there is genuinely interesting rather than disastrous.

**What the weather actually does** is keep you guessing. Northern Morocco sits right where Atlantic dampness meets Mediterranean mood swings, and November is when that tension becomes obvious. You might get a week of soft, warm autumn light that makes the white medina glow like something from a dream. You might also get grey skies, persistent drizzle rolling in off the Rif mountains, and streets that smell like wet stone and woodsmoke. Realistically, pack for both. Temperatures hover somewhere in the mid-teens, occasionally touching 20°C on good days, dropping chilly at night. It’s not beach weather, but it was never really about the beach.

**The crowds are essentially nonexistent.** This is a city that doesn’t get flooded with tourists even in peak season, and by November the handful of visitors who do come have mostly evaporated. The medina feels genuinely lived-in rather than performed. Traders in the souks are unhurried, more willing to chat, less interested in the transaction. You can wander the Spanish colonial quarter or the Andalusian gardens without anyone trying to photograph around you.

**Everything is open.** Unlike some coastal Moroccan towns that half-close in winter, Tetouan operates year-round for its own residents. The Ethnographic Museum, the art school, the hammams, the corner cafés full of men watching football – all functioning normally.

**Is it worth it?** For the right person, absolutely yes. If you want atmosphere over sunshine, authenticity over convenience, and you’re comfortable with a city that rewards slow walking and genuine curiosity rather than Instagram checkboxes, November is arguably ideal. If you need warmth and certainty, look elsewhere.

**Practical tip:** Bring a rain jacket that actually works. Not a light layer – a proper waterproof. The medina’s narrow covered streets help during showers, but getting caught on the hill above town in horizontal Rif rain with inadequate gear is a miserable education you don’t need.
