# Toulon in April: What It’s Actually Like

April in Toulon sits in that slightly awkward shoulder season where the Mediterranean is *almost* doing what you want it to do, but not quite committing. Temperatures typically hover between 11°C at night and 17-18°C during the day, which is perfectly pleasant for walking around but definitely not swimming weather, whatever the tourist sites might imply. You’ll want a jacket. Rain is genuinely unpredictable – April can be beautifully dry and sunny for days, then throw a proper downpour at you without much warning. Pack accordingly and don’t build an itinerary that falls apart if it’s grey.

The upside of this uncertainty is that Toulon in April is refreshingly uncrowded. This is not a city that gets completely overrun even in summer, but in April you’ll have the old port, the covered market on Cours Lafayette, and the cable car up to Mont Faron essentially to yourself. The Naval Museum at the Arsenal is open and rarely busy. The beaches at nearby Mourillon exist, and people do walk them, though sunbathing feels optimistic.

**Is it worth visiting in April?** Honestly, yes, but with adjusted expectations. If you want guaranteed sunshine and café terraces in shirtsleeves, come in June. If you want to actually experience the city without feeling like you’re shuffling through a crowd, April works well. It suits independent travellers, people doing a slower Provence trip, hikers using Toulon as a base for the Massif des Maures, and anyone who prefers atmosphere over beach weather.

**One practical tip:** bring layers specifically for Mont Faron. The top is noticeably colder than the port below, and the views on a clear April day are genuinely spectacular.
