# Trapani in July: What It’s Actually Like

Let’s be straightforward with you: July in Trapani is hot. We’re talking western Sicily in the height of summer, so expect temperatures regularly sitting in the low-to-mid 30s Celsius, occasionally pushing higher when the scirocco blows in from North Africa. Rainfall is essentially a non-event – you might see a brief storm, but you’re realistically packing zero wet weather gear. The sun is intense and the sea is that absurd turquoise colour that makes you question why you ever holiday anywhere else.

The crowds are real and worth thinking about honestly. Trapani itself doesn’t get quite the same overwhelming tourist crush as Taormina or the Aeolian Islands, but July brings Italian families on holiday alongside international visitors, and the ferry port gets genuinely busy with people heading to Favignana and the Egadi Islands. The Egadi are absolutely worth the trip but go early – by 11am the most popular spots on Favignana are heaving, and the boat queues back in Trapani can test your patience.

Everything is open. Restaurants, bars, the salt flats museum, boat trips – July is peak season so operators are running full schedules. The salt pans outside town take on an almost surreal quality in the summer light, with pink flamingos sometimes visible if you’re lucky. That sight alone justifies a detour.

Is it worth visiting? For beach lovers and island hoppers, absolutely yes. For people who struggle with heat and prefer wandering cities at a relaxed pace, it’s honestly challenging. The historic centre is beautiful but by early afternoon it becomes genuinely uncomfortable to walk around. You’ll find yourself structuring your day around the heat without meaning to.

**One practical tip:** book your ferry tickets to the Egadi Islands in advance online, not when you turn up at the port. Walk-up queues in July can mean missing entire morning sailings, and that eats a significant chunk of your day before you’ve even set foot on the island.
