Where to Stay in Antalya
Where to Stay in Antalya
Antalya rewards travelers who choose their base carefully, because the city spreads across a surprising amount of ground and the wrong neighborhood can add frustrating taxi rides to every single day of your trip.
For mid-range travelers, the Kaleiçi old town is the most atmospheric place to stay, but it comes with trade-offs. The boutique hotels here occupy beautifully restored Ottoman mansions with courtyard pools, typically running between 60 and 120 euros per night. The streets are genuinely charming and you can walk to the harbor, decent restaurants, and the old Roman walls without much effort. The downside is noise. Kaleiçi gets loud in summer, particularly around the bar streets near Hadrian’s Gate, so always request a room facing the interior courtyard rather than the street. That single request makes an enormous difference.
Konyaaltı Beach sits on the western edge of the city and suits people who want a proper beach holiday without paying resort prices. The beachfront promenade has improved dramatically in recent years, public beach access is free, and mid-range hotels here are genuinely good value. The neighborhood feels more local and less performatively touristy than some alternatives.
Avoid Lara Beach unless you specifically want the all-inclusive mega-resort experience. The hotels there are enormous, the beach is decent, but you are essentially on an island disconnected from actual Antalya life. Independent travelers usually feel stranded there.
The Muratpaşa district, which sits just inland from Kaleiçi, offers solid mid-range apartments and hotels at noticeably lower prices than the old town with reasonable access to everything. It lacks romance but delivers practicality.
The booking mistake that catches people out repeatedly is reserving a Kaleiçi hotel based purely on photographs. Those courtyard photos look identical from property to property, and the difference between a well-managed boutique and a poorly maintained one is significant. Read recent reviews specifically mentioning noise, air conditioning reliability, and breakfast quality before confirming anything. High season means high occupancy, and mediocre hotels know they can fill rooms regardless of standards.
