Where to Stay in Javea
Where to Stay in Javea
Javea splits into three distinct zones, and where you stay shapes your entire experience. The Old Town, known as the Casco Antiguo, sits inland and offers genuine character with stone streets, local restaurants, and a quieter atmosphere that suits couples and those who want to feel like they actually live somewhere rather than just sleep near a beach. Mid-range options here tend to be small boutique hotels or well-appointed apartments, typically running between 80 and 150 euros per night in summer. The tradeoff is that you’ll need a car or be comfortable walking decent distances to reach the water.
The Port area is the most practical base for most visitors. It has a working harbour feel, plenty of restaurants that cater to both locals and tourists, and easy access to Arenal Beach without being completely swallowed by the resort crowd. Mid-range hotels and apartments here offer solid value, and you get the benefit of being able to walk to dinner, the beach, and the weekly market without much effort. This is the sweet spot for most first-time visitors.
Arenal Beach itself is the most popular zone and the most expensive for comparatively average accommodation. You’re paying for proximity and convenience, but the area feels more generic and significantly busier, particularly in July and August. It’s worth avoiding if you want any sense of authenticity.
The biggest booking mistake people make is assuming that any hotel labelled as beachfront in Javea actually has direct beach access. Many properties use the term loosely, and you may find yourself a ten-minute walk from the water down a road with no shade.
For mid-range budgets, look for apartments with a kitchen rather than hotel rooms. Javea’s supermarkets are excellent and eating out every night quickly becomes expensive. Booking directly through the property or using platforms that allow flexible cancellation is wise because Spanish coastal weather can be unpredictable in shoulder season. April and October offer genuinely good value with smaller crowds and temperatures that remain completely comfortable for exploring and swimming.
