Where to Stay in Milos

Milos rewards travelers who put a little thought into where they base themselves, because the island is more spread out than it looks on a map, and choosing the wrong village can mean spending half your trip in a rental car going nowhere interesting.

Adamas is the main port town and the most practical choice for mid-range travelers. It has the widest range of hotels, tavernas within walking distance, and easy access to the ferry terminal. It lacks charm compared to other villages, but the convenience is real, especially if you’re arriving late or leaving early. Expect to pay roughly 80 to 130 euros per night for a decent double room with breakfast included at a family-run guesthouse.

Plaka is the hilltop capital and arguably the most beautiful place to stay on the island. The narrow white streets, the castle views, and the sunset from the top are genuinely special. Some mid-range studios and small hotels sit just below the main village, giving you the atmosphere without the premium prices of the properties right on the ridge. Book something here if you prioritize character over convenience, but know that parking is a challenge and the walk with luggage is real.

Pollonia in the northeast is quieter, popular with families, and has good tavernas along the waterfront. It also gives you easy access to the ferry to Kimolos if you want a day trip. This area suits travelers who want a relaxed pace without the tourist density of Adamas.

Avoid renting in isolated areas around Sarakiniko or Fyriplaka unless you specifically want total seclusion. You will need a car for everything, and some properties in these spots are overpriced for what they deliver.

The single most common booking mistake on Milos is reserving accommodation without confirming whether breakfast and air conditioning are actually included rather than listed as optional extras. Many listings look competitive until you add those costs back in. Read the fine print before clicking confirm, and message the host directly if anything is unclear.
