Where to Stay in Paxos
Where to Stay in Paxos
Paxos is a small island, which means accommodation choices are limited but genuinely charming. The island rewards those who do their research rather than booking whatever appears first in search results.
Gaios, the main port town, is the most convenient base and suits upscale travelers well. Several boutique guesthouses and renovated stone villas sit within walking distance of good restaurants and the ferry connections to Antipaxos. The waterfront position means you get atmosphere without sacrificing access. Lakka, on the northern tip, is arguably more beautiful and quieter, with a horseshoe harbor that feels almost theatrical at sunset. Upscale visitors often prefer Lakka precisely because it slows everything down without feeling remote. Loggos, the middle village, splits the difference and has some excellent privately rented villas with olive grove views that represent genuinely good value at the higher end of the market.
Avoid booking anything on the interior of the island unless you have a rental car confirmed before arrival. Paxos looks tiny on a map but walking between villages in summer heat is genuinely unpleasant, and taxis are scarce.
For upscale travelers, the sweet spot is a privately managed villa or boutique property booked directly with the owner or through a specialist Greece villa company rather than a generic platform. Properties on Paxos at this level often include a pool, sea views, and genuine character in buildings that are decades or centuries old. Expect to pay between 250 and 500 euros per night for a well-positioned two-bedroom villa in peak season. That price is honest and competitive for what you receive.
The single booking mistake people consistently make is reserving accommodation without confirming boat transfer arrangements from Corfu or Parga. Paxos has no airport, and the ferry schedule is not always aligned with flight arrivals. Several visitors arrive at their beautiful villa exhausted and hours late because they assumed connections would work out conveniently. They rarely do without planning. Book the ferry or water taxi the same day you book your room, and the island will feel effortless from the moment you arrive.
