# Zadar in April: What It’s Actually Like
April in Zadar sits in that interesting middle ground where the city hasn’t fully woken up yet but you can feel it stretching. Temperatures average around 18°C, which sounds lovely on paper and mostly is — warm enough for a coffee on the waterfront without your coat, cool enough that wandering the old town for hours doesn’t drain you. Pack a light jacket though, because evenings drop noticeably and that Adriatic wind has an edge to it.
The rain situation is real. Nearly 75mm across the month means you’ll almost certainly catch a few proper wet days, not just passing showers. It’s not monsoon misery, but it’s also not the dry Mediterranean dream. Buildings look better in the rain than you’d expect, honestly — the old stone streets get this pewter gleam that’s actually quite beautiful if you’re in the right mood for it.
Crowds are genuinely low, which is either the main appeal or a mild drawback depending on what you want. The Sea Organ and Sun Salutation are completely yours to enjoy without elbowing tourists out of the way. The old town feels like somewhere people actually live. Most restaurants are open, some with reduced hours, and you might find a couple of the more seasonal spots still shuttered, but nothing that’ll leave you struggling to eat well.
Is it worth going? For couples, slow travellers, photographers, and anyone who breaks out in hives at peak-season tourism — absolutely yes. If you need buzzing beach bars and a party atmosphere, you’re two months early.
The Museum of Ancient Glass is genuinely excellent and significantly more enjoyable when you’re not shuffling through with a crowd. Give it proper time.
**One practical tip:** book accommodation but don’t lock yourself into rigid daily plans. April weather here changes fast, and your best strategy is staying flexible — use a sunny morning for the waterfront and save the museum or the nearby Krka day-trip for when the clouds roll in. Fighting the weather here is a losing game. Working with it isn’t.
