# Skiathos in July: Honest Thoughts
Let me be straight with you: July in Skiathos is busy. Not “a few more people than usual” busy — genuinely, properly packed. The island is small, the airport runway is famously short and dramatic, and planes land basically over the beach at Koukounaries. In July, those planes are arriving constantly, full of people who had the exact same idea you did.
The weather is glorious and almost aggressively consistent. You’re looking at around 29°C most days, barely any rain — maybe a light shower across the whole month if you’re unlucky — and strong sunshine from about 7am. The Aegean is warm enough to feel like a bath by mid-afternoon. Nobody is complaining about the climate.
What you’ll actually find is that Skiathos Town transforms into something resembling a very attractive outdoor nightclub that serves Greek food. The waterfront tavernas are all open, every bar is pumping, boat trips to Lalaria beach are running daily, and the famous Banana Beach has more sunbeds than sand visible by 10am. Everything is operating at full capacity because the island’s entire economy is essentially compressed into these eight or nine weeks.
Is it worth it? Honestly, that depends entirely on you. If you’re 25-35, want nightlife, beach bars, sociable energy and don’t mind paying peak prices for the privilege, July in Skiathos genuinely delivers. It’s fun in an uncomplicated, hedonistic way. If you’re hoping for quiet coves, unhurried taverna meals and some sense of actually discovering a Greek island, you will find July frustrating. The hidden beaches aren’t hidden in July.
Families with young children can make it work, but the heat is intense and the crowds require patience.
**One practical tip:** Rent a scooter or small quad early — first morning if possible. The northern and eastern coastline has genuinely quieter spots that day-trippers rarely reach because they never leave town. Two wheels gives you access to a completely different, calmer island that exists alongside the chaos. Without transport, you’re stuck in the middle of it.
