# Milos in July: What It’s Actually Like
Let’s be straight with you: July in Milos is hot, busy, and genuinely wonderful if you go in knowing what you’re signing up for.
The temperature sits around 31-32°C most days, and with the Aegean sun bouncing off white volcanic rock and turquoise water, it feels warmer than that. You’ll want to be at a beach by 9am and horizontal somewhere shaded by 1pm. That’s just the rhythm. Rain is basically a myth in July — maybe 5mm across the entire month, which means a five-minute sprinkle if you’re lucky. Pack accordingly and don’t waste luggage space on anything waterproof.
**Crowds are real.** Milos has exploded in popularity over the last decade and July is peak season. Sarakiniko, that otherworldly moonscape beach, will have people crawling over it by mid-morning. Kleftiko, the sea caves you reach by boat, gets genuinely hectic. The main village of Plaka in the evenings is lively bordering on chaotic. Boats fill up. Restaurants need bookings. If you showed up five years ago and had Milos “to yourself,” adjust your expectations significantly.
That said, everything is open — every taverna, boat tour, beach bar, and rental car company is fully operational. It’s the easiest time logistically. Ferry connections from Athens are frequent and reliable.
**Is it worth it?** For beach lovers, sun chasers, and people who don’t mind other humans existing nearby, absolutely yes. The island’s geology is so unusual — colored cliffs, steaming vents, hundred different coves — that even a busy version of it is spectacular. If you’re sensitive to crowds or heat, September is a much gentler version of the same trip.
**One practical tip:** Rent a car or ATV for at least two days. Milos has dozens of beaches that require a vehicle to reach, and the ones down rough dirt tracks are where you’ll find genuine breathing room even in peak July. Don’t rely on buses and don’t expect to walk anywhere meaningful in that heat.
