# Antalya in March: What It’s Actually Like

Let me be straight with you: March in Antalya is not the postcard version. The sun exists, but so does a genuine amount of rain, and the city is somewhere between hibernation and waking up properly.

## The Real Atmosphere

With average temperatures around 17°C, it feels more like a mild British autumn than a Mediterranean escape. You’ll need a jacket, definitely a layer in the evenings, and some acceptance that at least a few of your days will involve grey skies and proper rainfall. That 112mm of monthly rain isn’t just a light drizzle situation — some days will be legitimately wet. The mountains behind the city are still snow-capped though, which is genuinely stunning against the old town walls.

## Crowds and What’s Open

This is actually where March earns its credibility. The resort strip along Lara Beach is essentially closed — hotels shuttered, sunbeds stacked away, beach clubs silent. Don’t come expecting a beach holiday because you’ll be disappointed and slightly sad.

However, Kaleiçi, the old harbour district, functions perfectly well. Restaurants are open, locals are actually present rather than overwhelmed, and you can explore Hadrian’s Gate or wander the Roman harbour without a single tour group blocking your shot. The Archaeological Museum is open and magnificent without summer queues.

## Worth It For Whom

Honestly? March suits history lovers, hikers using Antalya as a base for the Taurus Mountains, and anyone who actively enjoys a city on its own terms rather than performing tourism. Budget travellers will find genuinely good deals on accommodation. Couples wanting atmosphere over beach clubs will find it charming.

It absolutely does not suit sun-seekers, families with young children expecting pool weather, or anyone whose mood depends on reliable sunshine.

## One Practical Tip

Pack a compact umbrella but book your accommodation in Kaleiçi itself rather than the resort coast. You want walkable access to the parts of the city that are actually alive in March — staying 8km away at a half-closed resort hotel will kill your trip completely.
