# Lefkada in March: Honest Thoughts
Look, March in Lefkada is not the postcard version. The water is that impossible turquoise colour in photographs precisely because you’re looking at it from inside a jacket.
**What it’s actually like**
Fourteen or fifteen degrees sounds reasonable until the wind off the Ionian hits you on a hilltop. Days can be genuinely lovely – bright sunshine, crisp air, that particular Greek light that makes everything look slightly more real than real. Then it rains for two days straight and you’re very aware that your accommodation has that slightly damp smell that off-season places in Mediterranean climates always have. The 45mm monthly rainfall isn’t constant misery, but you’ll definitely see some of it. Pack accordingly and accept it.
**Crowds**
Essentially zero. Porto Katsiki and Egremni, those famous beaches that resemble a screen saver, will be yours entirely. This sounds wonderful and honestly it mostly is, but it also means the atmosphere is quiet to the point of emptiness. Lefkada Town has locals doing local things, which is genuinely charming, but don’t expect buzzing tavernas and beach bars.
**What’s open**
This is the real conversation. A decent amount is closed – beach bars obviously, many rental companies, some restaurants. Lefkada Town itself functions normally, supermarkets, kafeneions, everyday life. You’ll find places to eat and drink without trouble. You just won’t have much choice.
**Is it worth it?**
For the right person, absolutely yes. Photographers, hikers, people who specifically want to drive mountain roads without a tour bus behind them, couples wanting somewhere quietly beautiful without performance – March works well. For anyone whose holiday requires sunshine guarantees, beach swimming, or vibrant nightlife, come back in June.
**One practical tip**
Rent a car before you arrive and confirm the booking in writing. Several rental outfits run reduced operations in March and occasionally just don’t open if it’s been a slow week. Finding out you have no transport on a rainy Tuesday with limited buses is a particular kind of frustrating.
