# Vis in April: Honest Notes

April on Vis sits in that slightly awkward shoulder season where the island hasn’t fully woken up yet but is definitely stirring. The weather is genuinely pleasant rather than spectacular – you’re looking at around 15 degrees, which feels fresh and lovely if you’re walking, slightly chilly if you’re sitting still at a harbourside café nursing a glass of wine. Pack a proper jacket. The rain figure of around 52mm spread across the month means you’ll likely get a few grey, drizzly days mixed in with some genuinely beautiful ones. It’s not Mediterranean summer, but it’s not grim either.

The crowds situation is honestly the best thing about April. Vis in July and August is a different island – yachts stacked four deep, restaurants fully booked, that particular atmosphere of too many people who all had the same idea. In April you’re largely alone. You can walk into Konoba Bako or any of the better local restaurants without a reservation, the roads are quiet, and the locals are actually pleased to see you rather than tolerating you as an economic necessity.

What’s open is the real variable. Some restaurants and accommodation options don’t bother opening until late April or May, so check before you go. The wine producers around Komiža and the inland villages are usually accessible – this is actually a nice time to visit them without feeling like you’re on a conveyor belt. The beaches exist but swimming is for optimists only.

Is it worth it? For the right person, genuinely yes. If you want empty fishing villages, decent hiking on the interior paths, good wine, and slow lunches – April delivers. If you need beach weather and buzzing nightlife, you’re simply in the wrong month.

The one practical tip: book your ferry in advance more than you’d expect to need to. The Jadrolinija schedule runs reduced services in April, and if you miss one or it gets cancelled due to bora wind, the next sailing might be half a day away.
