# Menorca in March: Honest Thoughts
Look, March in Menorca is not the Menorca of Instagram. The beaches are empty, the water is cold, and there’s a genuinely decent chance you’ll spend an afternoon watching rain streak down your apartment window. Average temperatures hover around 14-15°C, which sounds manageable until the wind comes off the water and makes it feel considerably less so. You’re getting about 41mm of rain across the month, so not constant misery, but enough to reshape your plans on a few days.
Here’s the thing though. For the right person, this is actually a fantastic time to go.
The island is almost completely quiet. You can walk the Camí de Cavalls, the coastal footpath that rings the entire island, without seeing another soul for hours. The landscape is genuinely beautiful in a raw, green, slightly moody way that summer burns away entirely. Stone walls, wildflowers starting to appear, dramatic grey skies over coves that in August you couldn’t reach without booking a boat transfer. It’s a completely different place.
Crowds are essentially nonexistent. Ciutadella and Maó are functioning towns rather than tourist stages, the restaurants that are open are full of locals, and prices are noticeably lower across accommodation and flights. You’ll feel what the island actually is rather than what it performs for visitors.
The catch is that things are genuinely closed. Plenty of beach bars, boat trips, and tourist-facing businesses don’t open until May or June. You need to be comfortable making your own entertainment, renting a car to explore properly, and accepting that some places you read about online simply won’t be operating yet.
Worth it? Yes, but specifically for walkers, cyclists, people escaping burnout, couples who want quiet rather than sunshine, and anyone who finds off-season travel more interesting than peak-season convenience. Not right for families needing beach days or anyone whose holiday satisfaction depends on warmth and a functioning pool.
**Practical tip:** Rent a car without hesitation. Public transport is skeletal in March and the whole island opens up once you’re mobile.
