# Cannes in March: Honest Thoughts

March in Cannes is genuinely pleasant if you know what you’re signing up for. The temperature sits around 15°C, which sounds reasonable until you factor in the wind off the water and the fact that the sun disappears behind clouds more often than the postcards suggest. Pack a proper jacket. You’ll want it in the evenings especially, when sitting outside at a café stops feeling romantic and starts feeling like stubbornness.

The rain is real too – around 80mm across the month, which isn’t constant misery but it’s enough to mess with beach plans. You’ll get bright, crisp mornings followed by an afternoon shower followed by a stunning golden hour. The weather is genuinely moody and you need to just roll with it.

The upside of all this is that Cannes in March belongs to you in a way it absolutely doesn’t in summer. The Croisette is walkable. You can stroll the full length without navigating a wall of people, actually look at the Palais des Festivals, and find a table at decent restaurants without booking three weeks ahead. Most shops and restaurants are open – this isn’t a ghost town like some coastal resorts in low season. The market at Forville is running, the old quarter Le Suquet is atmospheric and quiet, and the ferry to Île Sainte-Marguerite still operates if you want to visit the fort.

Is it worth visiting? For couples wanting a relaxed, genuinely French experience without the circus of summer, absolutely yes. For families hoping for beach holidays, probably not – the water is cold and the vibe isn’t there yet. It’s also excellent for anyone combining it with Nice or Antibes as part of a wider Riviera trip, since everything is easy and unhurried.

**One practical tip:** visit on a Tuesday or Saturday morning for the Forville market at its best. Get there by 9am, buy olives, charcuterie and whatever looks good, then walk down to the sea. That’s the real Cannes, and March is one of the few months you can actually experience it.
