# Gozo in July: What It’s Actually Like
Let’s be straight with you: July in Gozo is hot, busy, and brilliant in roughly equal measure, depending entirely on what you’re after.
That average temperature of 25.4°C sounds perfectly reasonable until you factor in that you’ll be standing on limestone rock that’s been absorbing Mediterranean sun since April. Midday feels significantly hotter than the numbers suggest. The island is essentially a giant pale rock, and it radiates heat back at you with some enthusiasm. The saving grace is that July usually brings a reliable sea breeze, and those near-zero rainfall figures mean you’re getting relentless blue skies. You won’t need a jacket. You won’t even need to think about a jacket.
Crowds are real but manageable. Gozo genuinely does attract fewer visitors than mainland Malta, partly because the ferry crossing puts a psychological barrier in place. That said, July is peak season, so the Azure Window’s former spot at Dwejra still draws people, the Inland Sea gets busy by late morning, and you’ll want to arrive at Ramla Bay early if you want a peaceful stretch of sand. Book restaurants ahead, especially in Victoria and Xlendi.
Everything is open. Every boat trip, dive centre, jeep tour, and clifftop bar is fully operational. If you want to explore the coastline properly, July is genuinely one of the best months for it. The water visibility for snorkelling and diving is exceptional, and the sea temperature around 26°C means you’ll stay in for hours.
Is it worth visiting? Yes, but it suits certain people well and others less so. If you love swimming, late evenings, cold Kinnie on a harbour wall, and don’t mind retreating indoors between noon and four, you’ll love it. If you hate heat and prefer walking all day without melting, consider May instead.
**One practical tip:** hire a car for at least one day. The buses are infrequent and the island’s best spots are spread out. An hour’s drive unlocks a completely different, quieter Gozo than most July visitors actually see.
