# Budva in October: The Honest Version

Here’s the thing about Budva in October — it’s genuinely lovely, but not in the way the summer crowd experiences it.

The temperature sits around 20-21°C, which sounds perfect on paper, and it mostly is. You’ll have warm enough days to sit outside with coffee and actually enjoy the old town without sweating through your shirt. But Montenegro gets serious rainfall in October — we’re talking nearly 230mm across the month — so pack accordingly. This isn’t a drizzle situation. When it rains here in autumn, it properly commits. You might get four brilliant sunny days followed by two days where the sky just opens. Plan flexible days rather than rigid itineraries.

**The crowds question:** Gone. Almost entirely. The Stara Gradska (old town) becomes walkable again without feeling like a human traffic jam. You can actually photograph the walls, wander the narrow streets at your own pace, and find a restaurant table without a reservation. The difference from August is almost shocking.

**What’s open:** More than you’d expect, but with caveats. Most restaurants in the old town stay open — they rely on year-round locals too. Beach clubs are shuttered, and the party scene that defines Budva’s summer reputation has packed up entirely. Some smaller hotels close mid-October. Nightlife is essentially nonexistent.

**Is it worth it?** Absolutely — for the right person. If you want history, good Montenegrin food, coastal walks, and genuine quiet, October delivers. Day trips to Kotor or Cetinje are easy and uncrowded. The light in autumn is honestly beautiful for photography. If you’re coming for beach parties and Instagram-worthy cocktails at sunset beach bars, you’re in the wrong month entirely.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation with a bathtub or at minimum a good shower. After a wet hiking day around the coastline, you’ll want it, and budget properties sometimes cut corners here. Check specifically before booking — you’ll thank yourself.

October Budva rewards the curious traveler. It punishes anyone expecting a summer holiday with cooler weather.
