# Antalya in September: Still Summer, But Breathing Again
September in Antalya is basically August with the volume turned down slightly, and honestly that’s a good thing.
The heat is real. You’re looking at around 31°C most days, which is genuinely hot, not “warm European summer” hot. The sun is still fierce enough to wreck you if you spend four hours on the beach without thinking about it. Rainfall is minimal — barely 25mm across the whole month, so you’re not planning around storms or carrying an umbrella. The sea temperature is sublime, sitting in the high twenties, which means the water actually feels refreshing rather than like stepping into a warm bath.
What changes from peak July and August is the crowd situation. European school holidays are over, which means the beaches and the old city — Kaleiçi — become significantly more bearable. You can walk the harbour area without shuffling along in a pack, and restaurant tables are easier to come by. The bazaars are still busy, but the desperate, sweaty chaos of midsummer has eased off noticeably.
Everything is open. This is still firmly tourist season, so you’re not turning up to find half the restaurants shuttered. Tour boats run, the waterfalls at Düden are accessible, Aspendos and Perge are worth visiting though go early because midday ruins in direct sun are punishing regardless of month.
Is it worth visiting? For families with school-age children who couldn’t travel in summer, it’s genuinely ideal — proper beach holiday conditions without peak pricing or peak crowds. For couples or solo travellers who want a mix of history, food, and sea, it’s probably the best month to visit full stop. If you hate heat entirely, wait for October when temperatures drop more meaningfully.
**One practical thing:** book accommodation that specifies the old city or the beach strip separately. They’re not the same experience at all, and plenty of first-timers end up in a resort corridor that could be anywhere. Decide which version of Antalya you actually want before you book.
