# Albufeira in April: What It’s Actually Like

April sits in that sweet spot where the Algarve hasn’t yet been overrun but the weather is genuinely pleasant rather than just theoretically pleasant. Nineteen degrees is real t-shirt weather in the sun, which is most of the time. You’ll want a light jacket for evenings and the occasional breezy afternoon, but nobody is sitting inside wishing they’d stayed home.

The 30mm of rain sounds alarming if you’re from somewhere dry, but spread across the month that’s maybe four or five proper rainy days, not four weeks of misery. The rain tends to arrive, do its thing, and leave. You’re unlikely to lose an entire day to it.

Crowds are genuinely manageable. The Old Town is walkable without feeling like you’re shuffling through a human traffic jam. Restaurants have tables. You can actually see the beach rather than just the back of someone’s head. The Strip — that chaotic tangle of bars and clubs around Rua São Gonçalo de Lagos — is quieter but not dead, which honestly makes it more enjoyable if loud package holiday chaos isn’t your idea of fun.

Most things are open. Some smaller beach bars and water sports outfits are still warming up for the season, but restaurants, cafés, the main beaches, boat trips, and day excursions are all running. Prices for accommodation haven’t hit peak summer rates yet, which matters because Albufeira in July is not cheap.

Is it worth it? For couples, solo travellers, anyone over 30 who doesn’t need a roaring nightlife scene, and families with young kids — yes, absolutely. If you’re coming specifically for the party atmosphere and wall-to-wall sunshine, wait until June.

**One practical tip:** Book a boat trip to see the sea caves early in your stay rather than leaving it for your last day. Weather can turn quickly in April and operators sometimes cancel at short notice. Securing a morning slot in your first couple of days means you’re not scrambling at the end of the trip.
