# Cascais in April: What It’s Actually Like

April in Cascais sits in that slightly awkward shoulder season where the weather is genuinely pleasant but refuses to fully commit. You’re looking at around 19°C on average, which sounds ideal until you realise that means plenty of days hovering at 16°C with a sharp Atlantic wind cutting across the esplanade. Pack a proper jacket. The 30mm of rain across the month isn’t catastrophic, but you’ll almost certainly catch at least one grey, drizzly afternoon where the ocean looks moody and dramatic rather than inviting.

Here’s the thing though: that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

**The crowd situation is actually the main draw in April.** The summer hordes haven’t arrived yet. Restaurants, the Boca do Inferno cliffs, the beaches for walking (swimming is still cold, around 16°C in the water, so manage expectations), the Cascais Cultural Centre – all running normally. The day-trip infrastructure to Sintra runs reliably too.

**Who is April actually for?** Walkers, couples, people who want atmosphere without chaos, photographers who appreciate dramatic skies, and anyone who gets genuinely stressed by crowds in summer. It’s probably not for families expecting beach holiday conditions or anyone whose mood depends on guaranteed sunshine.

**One practical tip:** bring layers you can genuinely mix and adjust throughout the day rather than one heavy coat, because you’ll go from needing a jumper at 9am to being too warm by 2pm and back again by evening. April does what it likes.

Is it worth it? Honestly, for the right person, April might be the *best* time to visit.
