# Ksamil in February: Pretty Much Just You and the Rain
Let’s be straight with you: Ksamil in February is a completely different animal from the Instagram version you’ve probably seen. Those turquoise waters and white sandy beaches still exist, but you’re sharing them with approximately nobody, the tavernas are mostly shuttered, and you’ll probably spend at least half your time watching rain streak down a guesthouse window.
The weather sits around 10-11°C, which sounds almost tolerable until the wind comes off the Ionian and reminds you that “mild” is relative. Fifty millimetres of rain across the month means you’re not dealing with constant downpours, but rainy days are genuinely rainy, not just a light drizzle you can walk through. Pack accordingly.
What’s actually open is the real question, and the honest answer is: not much. Ksamil exists almost entirely for summer tourism, and the local economy doesn’t pretend otherwise. You’ll find a handful of guesthouses operating, one or two family-run restaurants if you’re lucky, and the basics. Don’t arrive expecting a functioning tourist infrastructure. The Albanian Riviera in February is essentially in hibernation.
Here’s what February does offer though. The beaches are genuinely deserted and quietly beautiful. The drive along the Riviera to Butrint, which is absolutely worth visiting, costs almost nothing and the ancient ruins feel properly atmospheric in grey weather. Sarandë, fifteen minutes away, has more life year-round with actual supermarkets and restaurants. Accommodation prices are laughably cheap compared to summer.
Is it worth visiting? For photographers, slow travellers, history buffs heading to Butrint, or anyone who breaks out in a rash when surrounded by crowds, genuinely yes. For anyone wanting beach holiday vibes or decent nightlife, absolutely not. Wrong month, wrong expectations.
**Practical tip:** Base yourself in Sarandë rather than Ksamil itself. Use Sarandë as your functioning home base with its open restaurants and services, then drive to Ksamil for the scenery. In February, Ksamil as a base is just isolating yourself in a closed-down resort village with limited options if anything goes sideways.
