# Ksamil in March: Pretty, Quiet, and a Bit Soggy
Look, Ksamil in March is not the Ksamil you’ve seen plastered across Instagram. Those crystal-clear turquoise waters and packed beach bars? That version shows up in July. March is a completely different animal, and whether that’s good or bad depends entirely on what you’re after.
The weather is mild but unpredictable. At around 14°C you’re not cold exactly, but you’re not warm either. Pack a proper jacket. The 45mm of rainfall across the month means you’ll almost certainly catch at least a few grey, drizzly days, sometimes several in a row. The Ionian still looks beautiful when the sun breaks through, and it absolutely will, but don’t build your trip around beach days because you’ll be disappointed.
What you get instead is the place almost entirely to yourself. Ksamil in March feels like a small Albanian village again rather than a tourist resort, because that’s essentially what it is. The population of sun-lounger vendors and boat trip touts has evaporated. You can walk the beaches in near silence, which is genuinely lovely.
The honest catch is that a lot of businesses simply close for winter and don’t reopen until April or May. Some restaurants are shuttered, a handful of accommodation options are unavailable, and the beach bars are locked up. You won’t struggle to find somewhere to eat or sleep, but your choices are limited. The road access has also historically been rough in places, and spring rain doesn’t improve that.
Butrint National Park nearby is actually excellent in March. Fewer visitors, greener landscape, and the archaeological site feels properly atmospheric rather than a crowded tick-box.
**Is it worth it?** For couples or solo travellers who want quiet, affordable, slightly melancholy off-season beauty, genuinely yes. For families expecting a beach holiday or anyone needing reliable sunshine, wait until June.
**One practical tip:** Call ahead to confirm your accommodation is actually open. Booking platforms don’t always reflect real-world winter closures, and arriving to a locked gate is a very specific kind of misery.
