# Çeşme in April: Honest Thoughts
April is that slightly awkward in-between month in Çeşme, and honestly, that’s either a problem or exactly the point depending on what you’re after.
The weather sits around 19°C, which sounds lovely on paper. In practice, it’s genuinely pleasant for walking around town but too unpredictable for beach days. You’ll get gorgeous sunny afternoons where you’re eating outside in a light jacket thinking you’ve cracked the code, then a grey drizzly morning that makes the whole place feel a bit forgotten. That 30mm of rainfall is spread across several days rather than one big dump, so expect the occasional soggy afternoon rather than a wash-out holiday. The Aegean breeze also has real bite to it still, so factor that in.
The crowds situation is genuinely excellent if you hate crowds. Çeşme in July and August is absolutely rammed with Turkish holidaymakers and gets expensive and noisy fast. April? You can actually walk through the market, get a table anywhere you want, and have the castle area mostly to yourself. It feels like a real town rather than a resort machine.
Most restaurants are open, the castle and museum are running normally, and you can explore the old quarter and surrounding villages like Alaçatı comfortably. Alaçatı in particular is lovely at this time of year – the stone streets and bougainvillea don’t require sunshine to be charming, and the boutique shops and coffee spots are operating without the summer chaos.
What’s not worth bothering with: the beaches. Ilıca and Altınkum are quiet to the point of deserted, water temperature is still pretty cold, and the beach clubs aren’t really in gear yet. If your trip depends on lying in the sun swimming, come back in June.
**Who should visit in April:** couples, solo travellers, people who love atmosphere over beach time, anyone doing a western Turkey circuit who wants to include a coastal stop without the crowds.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation anyway. The town is quiet but the good smaller guesthouses in Alaçatı still fill up on weekends, particularly over Easter.
