# Capri in April: The Honest Version
April is genuinely one of the better times to visit Capri, but not for the reasons the glossy travel sites will tell you. It’s not warm enough to swim, the famous Blue Grotto operates on a mood, and you’ll still get rained on. Here’s what it’s actually like.
At around 18°C, the weather sits in that awkward middle zone where you’ll be comfortable walking but underdressed the moment clouds roll in, which they will. Pack 30mm of rain across the month doesn’t sound like much until it all arrives on your second day. Bring a proper jacket rather than that thin linen thing you’re hoping will be fine.
The crowds are manageable in early April, then Easter arrives and temporarily ruins everything. If your dates overlap with Easter week, expect queues, noise, and restaurant prices that feel slightly personal. Come before or after and the island feels almost peaceful by its standards. The famous Faraglioni rocks photographed without seventeen boats in frame becomes genuinely possible.
Most things are open, which wasn’t true in February. Restaurants, boat hire, the chair lift up to Monte Solaro – all running. The Gardens of Augustus are glorious with spring flowers doing exactly what spring flowers are supposed to do. This is honestly peak time for walking the island, when the paths are dry enough but the heat hasn’t turned every uphill stretch into a small ordeal.
Is it worth visiting in April? For couples and solo travellers who want beauty without the summer circus, absolutely yes. For families expecting beach days and warm water, less so – the sea is still around 16°C, which is decorative rather than swimmable for most people.
The Blue Grotto remains weather-dependent regardless of month, so don’t build your trip around it.
**One practical tip:** Book the funicular or chairlift for early morning. By 11am even April crowds make them frustrating, and the light is better anyway.
