# Bari in June: What It’s Actually Like
June is honestly one of the better times to visit Bari, and I say that as someone who thinks the city is criminally underrated regardless of when you show up.
The weather sits around 25°C, which feels just about perfect for wandering the Adriatic coast without melting into the pavement. You’ll get genuine warmth without the brutal, sticky heat that arrives properly in July and August. Rainfall is minimal at around 10mm for the whole month – basically a brief shower here and there, nothing that ruins a day. Pack a light layer for evenings because the sea breeze off the Adriatic has a pleasant bite once the sun drops.
Crowds are manageable in early June, then start building noticeably toward the end of the month as Italian school holidays kick in. The city fills with domestic tourists rather than international ones, which actually gives the whole place a livelier, more authentic feel than somewhere like the Amalfi Coast at the same time. Bari doesn’t really do the overwhelmed-tourist-trap thing anyway. The old city, Bari Vecchia, still belongs to the neighbourhood ladies making orecchiette by hand in doorways, and they’re there every day regardless of the calendar.
Everything is open. Restaurants, the Basilica di San Nicola, the seafront fish market in the morning – it’s all running properly. June is post-shoulder season but pre-peak, so you get the pleasant middle ground of full operation without exhaustion.
**Who is this for?** Food lovers, people who want a genuine southern Italian city experience without posing for photos next to ten thousand other tourists, and anyone who wants a beach nearby without paying Puglia premium prices. Families are fine here too – it’s an easy, walkable city.
**One practical tip:** Go to the fish market on Piazza del Ferrarese early, around 7-8am. It’s chaotic, loud, and the freshest seafood you’ll see anywhere. Buy something, find someone to cook it. That’s the whole point of Bari in a single morning.
