Aegina is one of those islands that hasn’t completely lost itself to tourism, which means accommodation is generally affordable and you don’t need to spend a fortune to sleep well. The best area to base yourself is Aegina Town, the main port on the northwest coast. Staying here puts you within walking distance of the ferry terminal, the morning fish market, bakeries, and most of the island’s practical amenities. Streets just one or two blocks back from the waterfront promenade offer cheaper rooms than those with direct sea views, and honestly the difference in quality is minimal. Look for small family-run guesthouses and studios in this zone and you’ll typically pay between twenty and forty euros per night depending on the season.

Perdika, the small fishing village on the southern tip, is another solid option. It’s quieter, the tavernas are genuinely good, and the vibe feels more authentically Greek. Bus connections to Aegina Town run regularly and are cheap, so you won’t feel stranded. Budget studios here are plentiful and owners are generally open to negotiation if you’re staying several nights.

Avoid Agia Marina on the east coast unless you specifically want a package-holiday atmosphere. It caters heavily to group tourism, prices are inflated relative to what you get, and it lacks the character that makes Aegina worth visiting in the first place.

For budget travelers, self-catering studios are the smartest choice. Having a small kitchen saves money on meals and Aegina’s pistachio farms and local markets make shopping genuinely enjoyable. Aim to book directly with properties after finding them on booking platforms since many owners offer better rates over the phone or by email, avoiding platform fees.

The booking mistake people consistently make is reserving accommodation right on the harbor front assuming it’s the best location. Waterfront rooms come with a price premium and significant noise from ferries and late-night diners. A room one street back sleeps quieter, costs less, and still gives you the same easy access to everything Aegina Town offers.
