Visiting Skopelos in April

# Skopelos in April: What It’s Actually Like

Look, April in Skopelos is genuinely hard to predict, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. The weather sits in that frustrating in-between zone where you can get gloriously warm sunny days hitting 18-20°C and you’ll feel like you’ve cracked the secret of the universe, then the next morning brings grey skies and rain that keeps you trapped in your accommodation wondering why you didn’t just wait until June.

Rainfall is real and not trivial. April can be quite wet, especially early in the month. Pack accordingly and don’t build an itinerary that completely falls apart if you get two soggy days in a row.

What it actually feels like on the ground is quietly lovely, assuming you can embrace the uncertainty. The island is genuinely uncrowded. Skopelos Town and Glossa have their authentic rhythm back after a long winter. Tavernas are starting to reopen but some are still shuttered, so you won’t have the full choice of places to eat, particularly outside the main town. Don’t arrive expecting everything to be running at full speed.

The famous churches are accessible, the pine forests are intensely green, and the walking trails are at their best before summer dries everything out and the heat makes hiking unpleasant. The sea will almost certainly be too cold for swimming comfortably unless you’re that person at the pool who always claims it’s fine.

Crowds are minimal to non-existent. This is genuinely one of the best things about it. You can walk around the Chora, sit at a harbour cafe, and actually feel like you’re somewhere real rather than a set.

**Is it worth it?** Yes, but for the right person. If you want beaches, cocktails and reliable sunshine, wait until late June. If you want walking, atmosphere, emptiness, and don’t mind weather being part of the adventure rather than a backdrop, April genuinely delivers something the summer crowd never sees.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation that has a common room or cosy indoor space. You will need somewhere comfortable to retreat to on the grey days.
