# Skopelos in July: What to Actually Expect

Look, July in Skopelos is high summer in the Greek islands, which means you already know the broad strokes. It’s hot. Like, properly hot. Temperatures regularly sit in the low-to-mid thirties Celsius, and while there’s usually a decent Aegean breeze taking the edge off, midday feels brutal if you’re doing anything more strenuous than lying horizontally. Rainfall is essentially zero — this is one of the driest months of the year, so pack that raincoat at the very bottom of your bag and forget about it.

The island is busy. Not Santorini-queuing-for-a-sunset busy, but noticeably busier than you’d find in May or October. Mamma Mia fans still make pilgrimages here — the film was shot on Skopelos and that never really goes away — so expect the boat from Skiathos to have plenty of fellow tourists on it. That said, Skopelos handles its crowds better than most Greek islands because it’s never fully surrendered to mass tourism. The villages stay charming, the tavernas stay real, and locals haven’t checked out emotionally.

Everything is open in July. Restaurants, boat trips, beach bars, the little shops selling honey and olive oil in Skopelos Town — all fully operational and competing for your attention. Beaches like Panormos and Milia are gorgeous but get occupied early, so go before ten or after four if you want a towel-sized patch of your own.

Is it worth visiting in July? For beach lovers and people who want warm evening swims and cold Mythos on a harbour terrace — absolutely yes. For hikers, photographers, or anyone who wilts in direct heat, you might honestly prefer June or September when the island is quieter and the light is softer.

**One practical tip:** Book your accommodation early and specifically request somewhere with air conditioning confirmed in writing. “A fan” and “air conditioning” are not the same thing in 33-degree heat, and the difference will determine whether you sleep or just stare at the ceiling sweating.
