# Thassos in October: The Honest Version

Here’s the thing about Thassos in October — it’s genuinely a bit of a gamble, and whether that gamble pays off depends entirely on what you’re after.

The weather is the big unknown. Early October can still feel like summer, with temperatures hanging around the low-to-mid twenties and the sea warm enough to swim in without any drama. But slide into the second half of the month and you’re entering proper shoulder season territory — overcast days, the occasional downpour, evenings that suddenly feel autumnal in a way that catches you off guard. You can’t count on sunshine. Some people have glorious weeks. Others spend three days watching rain streak down taverna windows.

What you *can* count on is the crowd situation, which is genuinely brilliant. The Greek families and European package tourists have gone home. The beaches — Marble Beach, Paradise Beach, Golden Beach — are yours in a way that’s almost ridiculous compared to August. You can park wherever you want. You can sit at a taverna and actually have a conversation without shouting.

The catch is that things close. Not everything, but enough to matter. Some beach bars and restaurants start shutting from mid-October onwards. A handful of villages lose their tourist infrastructure almost entirely. You won’t be eating fresh fish and drinking cold Mythos until midnight every night unless you’re willing to hunt for somewhere still open.

What’s still worth doing? The interior — the mountain villages like Theologos and Kastro, the olive groves, the hiking trails — is actually *better* in October. Cooler, quieter, the light doing something lovely in the afternoons.

**Is it worth going?** If you hate crowds and heat more than you love certainty, yes, absolutely. It suits independent travellers, walkers, people who find their own entertainment. It’s a bad call if you need guaranteed beach weather and a buzzing nightlife.

**One practical tip:** Call ahead to check if your accommodation is actually open. Don’t assume. More than a few visitors have arrived to find their booked villa basically in shutdown mode.
