# Selçuk in February: Honest Thoughts
Look, February in Selçuk is not the postcard version. The temperature sits around 15°C on a decent day, which sounds reasonable until you factor in the rain – and there’s a fair amount of it, roughly 100mm across the month, arriving in grey, persistent spells rather than dramatic downpours. You’ll want a proper jacket and waterproof shoes, not a light layer you grabbed optimistically from the wardrobe.
Here’s the thing though: it’s genuinely fine, and for certain people it might actually be the best time to go.
Ephesus is the obvious draw, and in February you can walk through one of the ancient world’s most impressive sites with almost nobody else there. In summer this place is absolutely heaving – tour groups, cruise ship passengers, selfie sticks as far as the eye can see. In February you might share the marble streets with a handful of other visitors and that’s it. Standing in front of the Library of Celsus without a crowd pressing behind you is a completely different experience, almost eerie in the best possible way.
The town itself is quiet. Most tourist-facing restaurants and shops operate on reduced hours or skeleton menus, and a few close entirely. You won’t struggle to eat well, but don’t expect buzzing nightlife or a lively café scene. The House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of St John are both accessible and worth your time. The Ephesus Museum in town is small but genuinely good and weather-proof, which you’ll appreciate.
Is it worth visiting? If you’re a history enthusiast, a photographer who wants atmospheric shots without crowds, or someone who simply can’t travel in summer, yes, absolutely. If you need warmth, beach energy or a social scene, this is the wrong month entirely.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation in the town itself rather than in Kuşadası. In February Kuşadası is half-shut and soulless, while Selçuk’s small guesthouses stay open, serve breakfast, and the owners actually have time to talk to you.
