# Elba in June: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About

Honestly, June might be the best kept secret for visiting Elba, and I say that as someone who’s made the mistake of going in August and spent half the time queueing for gelato surrounded by approximately one million Milanese families.

**The weather situation** is genuinely good, with temperatures sitting comfortably in the mid-to-high twenties Celsius for most of the month. Early June can still feel slightly unsettled – you might catch a grey day or an afternoon shower, particularly in the first couple of weeks – but nothing that would seriously derail a trip. By mid-June you’re looking at reliably warm, sunny days without the suffocating heat that makes August feel like you’re slowly being baked on the rocks.

**The crowds** are manageable in early June, then start building noticeably from around the 15th onwards as Italian school holidays begin kicking in. Visit before that date and you’ll find beaches you can actually spread out on, restaurants that will take your booking, and roads where you’re not sitting behind a convoy of campervans for forty minutes.

**Everything is open** – that’s the real advantage over May. Boat tour operators are running, the better beach clubs are set up, ferry crossings are frequent, and the restaurants in smaller villages that sometimes can’t be bothered to open until the season properly arrives have made the effort by now.

**Who should go in June?** Couples, solo travellers, anyone who genuinely wants to swim and hike rather than perform a holiday. Families with school-age kids obviously face constraints, but if you can pull it off, early June rewards you with a version of Elba that feels authentic rather than theme-parked.

**One practical tip:** book your ferry from Piombino well in advance even for June. Moby and Toremar routes fill up faster than logic suggests they should, and missing your crossing means sitting in a hot port town watching seagulls fight over panini. Do it before you book anything else.
