Best Time to Visit Olympos

When to Visit Olympos

Olympos sits tucked between pine-covered mountains and a pebble beach on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, and timing your visit well makes an enormous difference to how much you enjoy it. The sweet spot falls across two windows: late spring from April through June and early autumn in September and October. During these months the weather behaves beautifully, sitting comfortably in the mid-twenties Celsius without tipping into the punishing heat that defines summer. The ancient Lycian ruins scattered through the valley feel genuinely magical when you can explore them without sweating through your clothes, and the sea temperature is warm enough for swimming without being the crowded circus that July and August bring.

April is perhaps the most underrated month of all. Wildflowers push through the ruins, the surrounding hills glow vivid green, and the handful of treehouse camps and budget bungalows along the valley road are quiet enough that owners genuinely want to chat and often drop their prices considerably. May and June build steadily in atmosphere and warmth, drawing a mix of backpackers and young European travelers but never overwhelming the place. September carries that golden, unhurried quality that follows the summer rush, prices settle back down, and October offers dramatically reduced crowds with pleasant swimming still very much on the table into the first weeks of the month.

Summer is honestly a different experience entirely. July and August transform Olympos into a packed party destination, dominated by university students and tour groups. Accommodation prices spike, the narrow valley path fills with noise late into the night, and the ruins themselves feel less like a contemplative ancient site and more like a backdrop for selfies. If budget and atmosphere both matter to you, simply avoid these two months.

Winter from November through March brings closures, with many of the famous treehouse camps shutting down completely and the ruins feeling genuinely isolated. Cold rain arrives frequently and the beach loses its appeal entirely.

The insider tip worth knowing is that arriving on a weekday in May, specifically Tuesday or Wednesday, means you can sometimes negotiate treehouse rates down by thirty percent compared to weekend pricing, since Turkish domestic visitors tend to arrive for weekends only during shoulder season.
