Where to Stay in Petrovac

Petrovac is one of Montenegro’s most relaxed coastal towns, and the good news for budget travelers is that it remains genuinely affordable compared to Budva or Kotor. The town is small enough that location matters less than people expect, but there are still smarter and less smart places to base yourself.

The old town area near the beach promenade is the sweet spot for most visitors. You’re within easy walking distance of the pebble beach, the small restaurants, and the Venetian fortress without paying the premium that similar positioning costs in other Adriatic towns. Family-run guesthouses and private apartments dominate this zone, and owners tend to be helpful and straightforward. Expect to pay between 25 and 45 euros per night for a clean private room or studio apartment, particularly if you book directly or through local platforms rather than the big international sites.

The hillside streets above the main road offer even cheaper options, sometimes 10 to 15 euros less per night, and the views can actually be better. The trade-off is a steeper walk back from the beach, which matters more in the midday heat than you think it will when you’re booking from home. For budget travelers who don’t mind the exercise, it’s a legitimate saving.

Avoid anything marketed aggressively toward party crowds near the main Budva road junction. The noise levels on summer nights can be significant, and the value rarely justifies the disruption.

One booking mistake people consistently make in Petrovac is reserving non-refundable rates too far in advance. The moderate crowd levels here mean availability rarely disappears, and local owners are often willing to negotiate slightly on walk-in or last-minute bookings, especially outside peak July and August weeks. Locking yourself into a non-refundable rate three months out removes flexibility without any real benefit.

For truly tight budgets, the campsite on the edge of town near Lučice beach is clean, reasonably maintained, and gives access to a quieter cove. It’s not luxury, but Petrovac rewards slow, simple travel, and the campsite fits that spirit well.
