It feels Mediterranean in a way that parts of the Montenegrin coast have completely abandoned in the chase for tourist euros. The pine-forested headland walk is legitimately lovely – shaded, unhurried, with decent views – and costs nothing except thirty minutes of your afternoon.
The Roman mosaic at Castello is a genuinely unexpected find. It’s modest, don’t expect Pompeii, but stumbling across ancient flooring inside a small fortress on a Balkan beach has a particular charm that’s hard to manufacture. Lucice beach, a short walk away, is prettier and calmer than the main strip. Buljarica is further but rewards the effort with serious space and fewer people.
For budget travelers, Petrovac is one of the better deals on this coast. Food is cheaper than Budva, accommodation options are reasonable, and you’re not constantly being sold at.

If you need variety in restaurants, nightlife, or activities, you’ll start feeling the walls close in around day three. The main beach, while charming, is not large – in peak July and August it gets properly crowded despite the town’s quiet reputation, which somewhat undermines the whole selling point.
The town itself lacks a strong identity beyond “quieter than Budva.” There’s not much of a real local scene to tap into, and some of the restaurants are transparently coasting on captive tourist trade without much effort in the kitchen.
Getting around without a car limits you more than in larger coastal towns.
