Visiting Petrovac in April

# Petrovac in April: Honest Take

April in Petrovac is genuinely unpredictable, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing. The Montenegrin coast in early spring sits in that awkward meteorological middle ground where you can get four perfect sunny days in a row followed by a grey, drizzly week that makes the whole town feel like it’s waiting for something. Average temperatures hover somewhere in the mid-teens Celsius, which sounds reasonable until a cold wind comes off the Adriatic and you’re suddenly wishing you’d packed that extra layer you nearly left at home.

The upside of that uncertainty? You’ll basically have Petrovac to yourself. This is a town that genuinely hibernates in the off-season, and April is still very much off-season. The famous pine-fringed beach looks quietly beautiful without a single sunlounger on it. You can walk the old Venetian fortress walls and the little promenade without navigating around anyone. It feels like you’ve stumbled onto a film set before production starts.

What’s actually open is the honest question. Some restaurants will be trading, particularly the ones catering to locals rather than tourists, but expect reduced hours and maybe two options on the menu rather than twelve. A handful of accommodation spots will be running. The beach bars? Closed. The ice cream places? Closed. The buzzy summer energy that makes Petrovac charming in July? Completely absent.

So who should actually go in April? Hikers, photographers, people who genuinely want quiet over convenience, and anyone who finds something poetic about seaside towns before they wake up. Also couples who don’t need entertainment laid on for them. If you’re travelling with children expecting beach activities and open facilities, genuinely wait until June.

Is it worth it? On the right week, absolutely yes. On the wrong week, you’ll spend two days eating at the same restaurant because it’s the only thing open and staring at a beautiful beach you can’t really use.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation that includes breakfast. You’ll be grateful when you discover your backup café option is also closed on a Tuesday.
