# Tangier in June: What It’s Actually Like

June is when Tangier starts to remember it has opinions. The city shakes off the mild, slightly grey spring and commits to proper Mediterranean summer, which means warm days hovering around 25-28°C with Atlantic breezes that make the heat genuinely comfortable rather than punishing. That wind coming off the strait is real and consistent, which is part of why Tangier handles early summer better than inland Moroccan cities that are already melting by this point. Rainfall drops to almost nothing – you’re unlikely to need a jacket for weather reasons, though you might want one for aggressive air conditioning in restaurants.

The crowds are building but haven’t peaked yet. European school holidays haven’t fully kicked in, so the medina is busy without being the complete chaos of July and August. You’ll share the kasbah and the petit socco with tourists, but you can still have a genuine moment of quiet in the side streets if you walk ten minutes from anything listed in a guidebook. Moroccans themselves travel heavily in summer, so don’t expect a deserted experience – this is a living city, not a museum.

Everything is open. Restaurants, hammams, the Kasbah Museum, day trips to Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules – all running normally. Ramadan timing shifts annually, so check the calendar before booking, because if it falls in June you’ll need to adjust your eating schedule accordingly and some daytime experiences feel different.

Is it worth visiting in June? For most people, yes – it’s probably the sweet spot before summer prices and crowds fully arrive. It suits people who want warmth without extreme heat, solo travellers wanting some atmospheric edge without tourist saturation, and anyone curious about the city’s genuinely interesting literary and international history. It’s less ideal if beach relaxation is your main goal, since Atlantic beaches here can still be cool for swimming.

**Practical tip:** Book your riad further in advance than you think necessary. June accommodation fills up faster than the destination’s reputation suggests, and the good small places go first.
