# Neum in July: Bosnia’s Tiny Slice of the Adriatic

So here’s the thing about Neum in July — it’s absolutely packed, and I mean that in the most chaotic, sweaty, wonderful way possible.

Neum is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s only coastal town, just 9 kilometres of Adriatic access sandwiched between Croatian territory. In July it transforms from a quiet little place into something resembling controlled mayhem. Bosnians, Herzegovinians, and plenty of travellers who’ve figured out that prices here undercut Dubrovnik and Split quite considerably all descend at once. The main strip gets genuinely crowded in the evenings, restaurants fill up, and parking becomes an exercise in patience.

**What the weather actually does:** July is hot. We’re talking properly Mediterranean hot — think mid-to-upper 30s Celsius on the regular, with the sun feeling intense and relentless by midday. Rainfall is genuinely minimal, so you’re unlikely to have a trip ruined by storms. The sea temperature is warm and inviting, usually sitting around 24-26°C, which is honestly the main draw.

**What’s open:** Everything. This is peak season so every restaurant, café, water sports rental, and apartment is fully operational. The duty-free shopping (a genuine perk of Bosnian tax rules) is humming along, and you’ll find alcohol and cigarettes noticeably cheaper than across the border.

**Is it worth it in July?** Depends entirely on you. If you love a lively atmosphere, don’t mind sharing beach space, want warm sea temperatures and guaranteed sunshine, and want Adriatic prices that don’t make you cry — yes, absolutely. If you’re after a peaceful retreat or space to actually spread out, honestly consider late May, early June, or September instead. The crowds aren’t Dubrovnik-level unbearable, but they’re real.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation well in advance and look slightly outside the main strip. Places a five-minute walk from the centre are noticeably quieter and often cheaper, without sacrificing anything meaningful about the experience.

Neum is small and a bit rough around the edges, but in July it has genuine energy. Just go in with realistic expectations.
