October in Torrevieja sits in that slightly awkward in-between zone, and whether you’ll love it or find it frustrating depends almost entirely on what you’re after.

The weather is genuinely unpredictable. Early October can still feel like summer, with temperatures hanging around the low-to-mid 20s and plenty of sunshine. Push into late October though, and you’re rolling the dice. The Costa Blanca gets its heaviest rainfall in autumn, and when it decides to rain here, it doesn’t mess around – think sudden heavy downpours rather than grey drizzle. You might get two perfect weeks. You might get a soggy one. Nobody can honestly tell you which.

What October does deliver is a town that’s recognisably itself again. The enormous summer crowds have gone, and Torrevieja stops being a human traffic jam. The salt lakes are still beautiful, the promenade is actually walkable at a reasonable pace, and you can get a table at a decent restaurant without waiting or pre-planning your entire evening.

The trade-off is that things start closing down or cutting hours. A chunk of the beach bars, some of the more tourist-facing restaurants, and a few smaller shops will either be shut or running reduced schedules by mid-to-late October. The town isn’t dead – it has a substantial permanent population and a large expat community – but it’s operating for residents now, not visitors, which some people find refreshing and others find a bit quiet.

It’s genuinely worth visiting in October if you’re after a relaxed, affordable base for walking, cycling the salt lake paths, eating well without queueing, and not competing for sunbeds. Retired travellers and couples who just want to decompress will probably love it. If you need guaranteed beach weather, buzzing nightlife, and everything open, you’re pushing your luck.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation with indoor space you actually want to spend time in. Don’t assume you’ll be outside every evening – have a backup plan for a rainy couple of days, or you’ll end up resenting the place.
