Visiting Aqaba in April

# Aqaba in April: What to Actually Expect

April sits in that sweet spot for Aqaba where the weather is genuinely pleasant without being the oppressive furnace it becomes by June. Temperatures typically hover in the mid-20s Celsius, occasionally nudging toward 30 toward the end of the month. Rainfall is minimal to the point of being almost irrelevant – Jordan’s south is desert, and Aqaba gets very little precipitation year-round, so you’re unlikely to have your plans disrupted by anything falling from the sky. The water temperature in the Red Sea is warming up nicely, sitting around 22-23°C, which is comfortable for snorkeling without needing a wetsuit, though sensitive swimmers might still want a shorty.

Crowds are picking up in April. Easter and the spring school holiday period bring a noticeable influx of European tourists, plus Jordanians and visitors from neighboring countries taking advantage of the comfortable conditions. It’s not shoulder season quiet, but it’s nowhere near the summer peak when every sun lounger is contested. You’ll share the snorkeling sites at the marine reserve, and the better dive operators get booked ahead, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Everything is open. Dive centers, boat trips, the water sports along the beach strip, restaurants along the corniche – April is well within operational season so you won’t encounter the shuttered frustration that can happen in quieter months.

Is it worth visiting? Honestly, yes, particularly if you’re there for the water. The Red Sea diving and snorkeling around Aqaba is genuinely underrated – affordable, accessible from the shore in places, and less crowded than the Egyptian side of the Gulf. If you’re hoping for a pure beach-lounging holiday baking yourself senseless, you might find April slightly cooler than ideal on breezier evenings. But for active water exploration, it’s excellent timing.

**Practical tip:** Book your dive certification course or guided dive trips before you arrive. The decent PADI centers fill their morning slots quickly in April, and turning up expecting same-day availability will likely disappoint you.
