Visiting Cairo in November

Visiting Cairo in November

# Cairo in November: Actually Worth It

Here’s the honest version: November is genuinely one of the better times to visit Cairo, and it doesn’t get talked about enough.

The heat finally breaks. After months of temperatures pushing into the low-to-mid 40s Celsius, November brings things down to a much more manageable 20-25°C during the day, cooling off noticeably at night. You’ll actually want a light jacket after sunset, which will feel completely surreal if you’ve ever sweated through a summer visit here. Mornings are pleasant enough that standing outside the Pyramids doesn’t feel like a punishment.

Rainfall is essentially a non-issue. Cairo is desert city — it might rain once, briefly, and people will treat it like a significant event. Pack accordingly, which means don’t bother packing for rain.

Crowds are moderate. You’ve missed the brutally packed summer school holiday rush, but you haven’t quite hit the peak winter tourist season that December and January bring when Europeans flee the cold. You’ll still share Giza with tour groups, because you always will, but it’s breathable. The Egyptian Museum, the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, the Citadel — all accessible without feeling like you’re shuffling through a queue rather than actually visiting somewhere.

Everything is open and operating normally. There are no seasonal closures to worry about, and the city is fully functional. Ramadan timing shifts annually, so worth checking, but in most recent November windows it’s not a factor.

Who should go in November? Honestly, almost anyone. It particularly suits people who want to combine sightseeing with actually walking around and exploring neighborhoods without heat exhaustion making every decision for them. Older travelers, anyone with kids, first-timers who want comfort alongside the experience — November works well.

One practical tip: book your Pyramids visit for first entry in the morning. The light is extraordinary, the temperature is still cool, and you’ll be done before the midday tour buses arrive in full force. Don’t save it for the afternoon thinking you’ll ease into it. Get there early and thank yourself later.
