Where to Stay in Perast
Where to Stay in Perast
Perast is one of those rare places where the question of where to stay almost answers itself. The town is barely half a mile long, stretched along a single waterfront promenade, so there are no bad neighborhoods to warn you about and no confusing districts to navigate. What matters here is whether you have a water view, how close you are to the boat launches for the island churches, and whether the property owner actually maintains the place properly.
For mid-range travelers spending roughly 80 to 150 euros per night, the sweet spot is securing a room or apartment directly on the Riva, the main waterfront road. Properties here give you immediate access to the bay views that define Perast, and you can walk to every restaurant and historic building within minutes. A few palazzo-style guesthouses have been converted into small boutique accommodations with stone interiors, wooden beams, and balconies hanging over the water. These fill up fast in July and August despite Perast staying quieter than Kotor, so booking two or three months ahead for summer visits is genuinely necessary.
The slightly inland lanes running parallel to the Riva are worth considering if you want to cut costs by 20 to 30 percent. You lose the direct water view but gain a quieter sleeping environment, since boats and evening gatherings on the promenade can create noise that carries. For budget travelers, these lanes and the town’s edges toward Risan offer the most affordable private room and apartment rentals, often through local listings rather than major booking platforms.
Avoid any accommodation that markets itself as being in Perast but is actually situated several kilometers away on the road between Risan and Kotor. This stretch has properties that use the Perast name loosely, and you will need a car for everything.
The biggest booking mistake people make is choosing a room with a courtyard facing inland while paying waterfront prices. Read the room descriptions carefully and specifically look for confirmed bay-facing windows or balconies. Owners are not always forthcoming about this distinction, and the difference in experience is significant.
