# Lagos in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About

Here’s the honest truth about Lagos in September: it’s one of the better times to visit, and most people don’t realise it.

The summer madhouse is winding down. European families have gone back to school, the absolute peak of August crowds has dissolved, and the Algarve starts remembering it has a personality beyond sunburned tourists queuing for ice cream. You’ll still find people around – this isn’t some ghost-town secret – but the difference in atmosphere compared to July or August is genuinely noticeable. Restaurants have space. The beaches at Meia Praia and Praia Dona Ana feel like they belong to you again, or at least to a manageable number of people who appreciate them.

The weather holds up well. At around 25.5°C, it’s warm but not the punishing heat of midsummer where you’re genuinely considering whether leaving the pool is worth it. You get actual beach days without feeling like you’re being cooked. The 20mm of rain sounds alarming but it isn’t – expect a handful of brief showers, maybe one afternoon that’s properly grey, and otherwise comfortable sunshine. Pack a light layer for evenings, which are noticeably cooler than August, but that’s not a complaint.

Everything is open. September is still firmly within tourist season, so you’re not rolling up to find half the restaurants closed for annual holidays or boat trips cancelled due to lack of demand. You get the full version of Lagos.

**Who is this month actually for?** Couples, solo travellers, friends without school-age children. Anyone who wants the Algarve experience without the accompanying chaos and inflated peak-season prices, which do start softening in September.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation earlier than you think you need to. The crowd reduction is real, but September has developed a reputation precisely because people like me keep recommending it. The decent places still fill up, especially weekends. Don’t learn this the expensive way by scrambling for availability two weeks before you travel.

Worth it? Genuinely, yes.
