Where to Stay in Brač
Brač draws big summer crowds, particularly in July and August when the island’s famous Zlatni Rat beach near Bol becomes genuinely packed and accommodation prices spike considerably. For mid-range travelers, timing and location choices matter more here than on many other Dalmatian islands.
Bol is the obvious base and for good reason. It sits on the south coast with direct access to Zlatni Rat, has a charming waterfront lined with restaurants, and offers plenty of three-star hotels and apartments in the 80 to 150 euro per night range. The downside is that everyone knows this, so book Bol at least two to three months ahead if you’re coming in peak season. The closer you stay to the beach, the noisier and pricier things get, so consider apartments a ten-minute walk inland where you’ll save money without losing convenience.
Supetar on the north coast is the ferry arrival point from Split and works well as an alternative base. It’s quieter, more authentically local, and mid-range guesthouses here offer genuinely good value. The beach isn’t as spectacular, but you’ll sleep better and spend less. It’s also practical if you’re day-tripping around the island by car or scooter.
Pučišća and Postira are smaller villages worth considering for mid-range travelers who want something slower. Apartments here tend to be spacious, often family-run, and significantly cheaper than Bol equivalents.
Avoid the overpriced apartments marketed as “near Zlatni Rat” that are actually a confusing twenty-minute uphill walk with no shade. The photos are always flattering and the reviews suspiciously vague.
Budget travelers should look at private rooms in Supetar or smaller villages and book directly with owners through local platforms rather than major booking sites to negotiate better rates. Splurge-level visitors will find small boutique hotels in Bol deliver genuine quality, especially those with pools.
The single biggest booking mistake people make is reserving accommodation without checking whether parking is included. Brač has limited parking in key areas, and daily parking fees can quietly add thirty euros or more to your overall costs.
