# Alanya in February: The Honest Version

Let me be straight with you: February is not Alanya’s best month. But depending on what you’re after, it might actually be exactly what you need.

The weather sits around 15 degrees, which sounds almost reasonable until you factor in that 114mm of rain falling throughout the month. That’s proper rain, not a quick afternoon shower. You’ll get genuinely grey, wet days where the castle disappears into low cloud and the sea looks the colour of concrete. Pack a waterproof jacket you’ll actually wear, not one you stuff in your bag hopefully.

That said, you do get sunny stretches. Some days hit 17 or 18 degrees with blue skies, and walking the clifftop to the castle in that quiet winter light is genuinely beautiful. You just can’t count on it.

The crowds, or rather the lack of them, are February’s real selling point. This place gets absolutely hammered with tourists from May onwards. In February you can walk through the old town without feeling like you’re in a human river. The harbour is calm, locals actually have time to talk to you, and you’ll pay significantly less for accommodation than you would in high season.

What’s open is hit and miss, though. Some beach restaurants are shuttered. A handful of boat trips still run when weather allows. The castle, the Red Tower, Damlataş Cave — the actual sights stay open. You won’t be bored, but the buzzy resort atmosphere is completely absent. If that atmosphere is why you’re going, wait until May.

February Alanya suits budget travellers who prioritise history and hiking over beach days, older couples who find summer crowds exhausting, or anyone who genuinely enjoys a place feeling like it belongs to the people who live there rather than the people passing through.

**One practical tip:** The bus connections from Antalya airport get less frequent in winter. Check the schedules before you arrive rather than assuming you can just rock up and catch the next one. It’s saved me a very cold wait more than once.
