# Amalfi in April: The Honest Version

April sits in that interesting window on the Amalfi Coast where everything is waking up but hasn’t quite lost its mind yet. The tourist hordes that make July and August genuinely miserable haven’t arrived, which means you can actually walk through the town without feeling like cattle being processed through a very beautiful chute.

The weather is genuinely pleasant rather than spectacular. Eighteen degrees feels comfortable for exploring, perfect for walking the hillside paths without sweating through your clothes, but bring a proper layer because evenings cool off quickly and that sea breeze has opinions. The 78mm of rain across the month means you will almost certainly encounter a rainy day or two, sometimes more. These aren’t gentle sprinkles either – Mediterranean spring rain tends to arrive with theatrical commitment. It’s not a dealbreaker, just build some flexibility into your plans rather than scheduling boat trips back to back.

The town itself is genuinely charming in April. The cathedral steps aren’t crammed, you can get a table at a decent restaurant without a reservation made three weeks in advance, and the lemon groves are ridiculously photogenic with spring growth. Most restaurants and hotels are open – Easter week is actually quite busy and prices spike then, so check your dates carefully before assuming April means quiet. Post-Easter, things settle considerably.

Boat trips along the coast operate but sometimes run reduced schedules depending on conditions. The Path of the Gods hiking trail above Positano is excellent this time of year – green, cool enough, wildflowers doing their thing.

Is it worth it? If you care about actually experiencing a place rather than just surviving it, yes. If you need guaranteed beach weather and want the full summer Mediterranean dream, you’ll be disappointed and you should go in June instead.

**Practical tip:** Check whether your visit overlaps with Easter weekend before booking. Accommodation prices double, day-trippers flood in, and it behaves nothing like the rest of April. Two weeks either side? Completely different experience.
