# Selçuk in November: The Honest Version
November in Selçuk sits in that slightly awkward shoulder-season space where the summer hordes have finally cleared out but the weather hasn’t entirely made up its mind. That 19.5°C average sounds lovely on paper, and honestly, it mostly is. You’re not sweating through Ephesus, which is a genuine gift. But 88.9mm of rain across the month means you will get caught in at least one proper downpour, probably while standing in an ancient theatre with nowhere to hide. Pack a light waterproof and just accept it.
The crowds are dramatically reduced and this is the biggest argument for coming. Ephesus in August is a shuffling queue of sunburned misery. In November you can actually stop, look up, and absorb the fact that you’re walking streets Romans walked. That experience is worth a lot of rain. The site stays open, the House of the Virgin Mary is accessible, and the Ephesus Museum in town is excellent and often nearly empty.
What’s trickier is that some smaller restaurants and guesthouses have closed for the season. The town gets noticeably quieter in a way that tips from peaceful into slightly sleepy depending on your mood. You’re not going to find buzzing evening atmosphere. The storks that nest on the aqueduct ruins have long gone south, which removes one of Selçuk’s more charming spectacles.
Worth visiting in November? For independent travellers who actually care about history and don’t need beach weather or nightlife, absolutely yes. For families with young children or people who need sunshine to enjoy a holiday, maybe reconsider or aim for early October instead.
The Artemission — the column remnant of the Temple of Artemis — stands in an open field and becomes genuinely atmospheric in grey moody light if you’re into that sort of thing.
**Practical tip:** Book your Ephesus entry online before you arrive. Even in November, the site gets coachloads of cruise passengers from Kuşadası arriving mid-morning. Get there when it opens at 8am and you’ll have the place almost entirely to yourself.
