# Antibes in February: Pretty Quiet, Pretty Wet

Look, February in Antibes is not the glamorous Riviera fantasy you’ve seen on Instagram. It’s cool, it rains a fair amount, and large chunks of the town operate on something approaching winter hibernation. But here’s the thing — depending on what you want, that might actually be perfect.

The weather sits around 12°C, which is mild enough that you won’t be miserable, but you’ll want a proper jacket and you should absolutely pack a waterproof. Nearly 90mm of rain falls across the month, so expect grey days, sudden downpours, and that particular Mediterranean winter light that’s either atmospheric or depressing depending on your mood. Sunny spells do happen, and when they do, the old town and the coastal path look genuinely stunning with almost nobody else around.

That emptiness is the real story here. The market at Cours Masséna still runs, locals are actually using it, and you won’t be elbowing past tour groups to buy olives. The old town is walkable and genuinely charming without the summer crush. The Picasso Museum is open and you’ll practically have it to yourself. Many restaurants operate reduced hours or close on certain days, so checking ahead saves frustration — some places shut entirely for a few weeks in January and February.

Is it worth visiting? For couples, solo travellers, or anyone who finds the French Riviera’s peak-season chaos actively unpleasant, yes. You’ll get affordable accommodation, peaceful streets, and the real rhythm of a town that actually has residents. For beach holidays or outdoor dining every night, no — this isn’t that month.

Nice is 20 minutes away by train and has more restaurants and things open if you need backup options. The Carnival in Nice sometimes falls in February too, which pairs nicely.

**One practical tip:** Check restaurant opening days individually before you go. Don’t assume because somewhere has good reviews that it’s open Tuesday in February. It probably isn’t.
